Accepting the Neurotic and working with experiential learning to Feel more alive.
Our human potential for ongoing growth and developement in our lives often gets caught up with notions
of right and wrong, shoulds and shouldnt's and perceived pressures of what our needs and must's are. These needs and must's are often projected notions of how we ought to develope ourselves in ways that mean other people can sell us something and/or suggest that we are inadequate {which is a often a transference]. The sense of lack or sense of i am wrong as I am is basic to dominant political ideology in the "1st" world.
So running with the previous statement I would like to unpick here the notion of "self help". Self help in its myriad forms is born out of the desire of the neurotic to improve ones self so as to become more acceptable to one's self and one's peers. Now many of the "interventions" I have experiencend and read about seem to pertain to the idea that their is an answer that people can learn or discover for themselves that people "individuate".
Self-help is a very big buissness and relys on neurotic notions of self.
From my own experince the process of maturation and the abilty to learn through experience is I beleive the only antidote to this widespread neuroticism.
To reconcile the traumatic and painful, rather than introducing new beleifs, people can evolve , grow and change throughout their lives BY DEVELOPING CAPACITY FOR LEARNING. To the extent we can keep learning all the time equals the extent to which we can reconcile our pain and dificulty and live more creativley.
